Rule of Thumb

Technology can be truly amazing. SwitchXS allows Mike to game, write and many other thangs with the use of just his thumb. Check out Mike's story.

"Mike Philips is a Mac gamer and writer. He plays games like World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament, is working on a novel and is a freelance tech writer. What makes him unique? Well, the fact that he does all this using only one thumb."

Will the Real Jack Sparrow Please Stand Up?

Johnny Depp aka. Jack Sparrow vs. Bartholomew Roberts aka. Black Bart would be an incredible mismatch. Black Bart was quite a bit more agressive and merciless than the movie character Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean. DailyMail has the low down.

"But the real pirate he is based on would have eaten the skittish Jack Sparrow for breakfast and spat out his bones into the deep blue sea."

Self-cleaning Toilet

A self-cleaning toilet system that allows for a scrub free cleaning experience is always a plus.

"This contrasts sharply with other toilet bowl-cleaners, which dispenses a variable amount of cleaner during the emptying phase of the flush cycle, which becomes ineffective as the agent is mostly flushed out."

Eat Like a King

I was perusing NPR for a BBQ article I had read a while back and came across A Dish Fit for a King. This was not what I was looking for, but I couldn't look away from the article. This then got me interested in what other foods, besides BBQ balogna, that Elvis liked. I then found an article in the Southern U.S. Cuisine about some of Elvis' favorite recipes. The jackpot came when I finally found The Ravenous Guide to Eating Like Elvis by Squidoo.

LikeTelevision

Some good friends and I sat and watched Internet TV for a few hours Saturday night. We came across LikeTelevision and went way back to watch old cartoons and such. It was a hoot to see the commercials from way back as well.

IE7 Gone Pro

So IE7 has some add-ons that will make it function like FireFox and AvantBrowser. I still prefer AvantBrowser myself. Check out these other IE7 extensions from Microsoft that I posted about earlier.

"Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Tabbed browsing enhancements like double click to close a tab, open new tabs from the address bar, and hide the search bar
  • Mouse gestures: right-click and drag your mouse up, down, left and right to navigate the current page or move to the next or previous pages
  • Ad Blocker
  • A crash recovery feature that restores all the pages you had open when your browser crashed
  • Save pages to a text file
  • Greasemonkey-like IE7Pro Script for adding new functions via scripts. "

Creative People and Their Attitudes

Creative people have certain attitudes towards problems or situations. ProBlogger has the 9 Attitudes of Highly Creative People. I need to have more of these 9 attitudes. As I am getting older, I am getting more and more skeptical. Skepticism does not lend itself to creativity.

But I Don't Wanna Run

I like to be fit and in shape, but I HATE running. I love sports, but I HATE running. I like to lose weight, but I HATE running. Can you see the theme here? So I run and I HATE it, but I know it's good for me. ZenHabits has a good article on how to begin a habit of running.

Greensburg, KS Wiped Out by Tornado

This is truly incredible! The force of nature is overwhelming. This tornado was said to be over a mile wide. The Salvation Army and American Red Cross are taking donations and contributions to help Greensburg, KS victims.

"The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported Greensburg's tornado was a "4" on the Fujita Scale. Winds in the "4" rating are up to 260 miles per hour. The Fujita Scale is used to rate the intensity of a tornado by examining the damage caused by the tornado after it has passed over a man-made structure.(http://www.tornadoproject.com, accessed 5 May 2007, top of web page, titled "The Fujita Scale")"

El Dorado Royale

R&R is good for the mind, body and soul. I finished my last day of hell week at school and then went straight into vacation. On vacation at the spa resort I had limited access to the Internet and roaming charges in Qu. Roo, Mexico were over a $1/minute, so access to technology was limited which was really nice.

El Dorado Royale is a really beautiful resort located about 30 minutes outside of Playa Del Carmen. The resort is all-inclusive, so we ate and drank till our bellies were full 3 square meals a day and then napped on the beach after each meal. The most activity I had was playing water polo, water volleyball and walking to restaurants located across the resort. I also got my first full body massage. It was very relaxing!

Well blog posts will be back up and running and reality has sunk back in and paradise is gone.
